CONCRETE Cattlemen welcomed Maria O’Donoghue, Business Development Manager of Lord’s Taverners charity, as their guest speaker this month.
Held at Galloways of Woburn every month, the business group heard there are 4.6m young people in the UK living in poverty or with a disability.
The Lord’s Taverners is the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity dedicated to giving disadvantaged and disabled young people a sporting chance.
Maria thanked Concrete Cattlemen chair, Alistar for his continued support in this region, highlighting that they couldn’t continue their important work without that support.
She told a packed room: “We are creating more opportunities than ever before for young people from deprived areas and those with disabilities to engage in sport and recreation in their local communities.
“This charity helps every child, no matter what their background is – this allows them to be the best.
“It doesn’t just help their personal life, it helps them academically.”
Guests enjoyed a two-course meal starting with salmon gravlax or mushroom soup and oven-roasted chicken supreme or basil pesto gnocchi as a main, followed by refreshing tea and coffees at the monthly event where guests are invited to speak at the Concrete Cattlemen business lunch to share knowledge and experiences with the local leaders of businesses in and around Milton Keynes.
Former speakers include Lady Mary Archer, Dame Cleo Laine, Edwina Currie, Sir Ian McGeechan, Neil Back MBE, Sir Edward Tompkins, Budge Rogers OBE and MP of MK South, Iain Stewart.
Alastair Brooks, Co-founder and Chairman of the Concrete Cattlemens Club, said: “Our members include former speakers plus leading figures in the business world of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.
“We are grateful to Galloways of Woburn, our current home, for looking after us with such attentive hospitality.”
