Concrete Cattlemen’s Puzzling Return

RETURNING from a summer break, Concrete Cattlemen – a group of local MK business leaders – met for their monthly business lunch at Galloways of Woburn last week.

After enjoying welcome drinks and a two-course lunch, Alistar welcomed their first speaker Graham Wylie.

The chairman of Puzzle Centre – a charity delivering early intervention for young children with autism – spoke about working with a number of local organisations to help them secure this dream.

He also spoke in depth about his intentions to open a centre in MK during World Autism Awareness week.

Graham brought along mum Louise Gregory to the group, to let guests hear first-hand how the charity helps families of autistic children.

He said: “What better way to hear about what Puzzle does, than from a mum.”

Louise’s son Zachary was diagnosed with autism when he was one and a half years old.

Looking for expert help, Louise found the charity by searching on Google and turned to them for support.

She told the business lunch at Galloways of Woburn: “Puzzle Centre has just opened up our world.”

Zachary started with Puzzle Centre at the age of two and Louise has found that he quickly responded.

She added: “Our life would not be what it is today without Puzzle Centre”.

Hosted by the Woburn restaurant, monthly guests are invited to speak at the Concrete Cattlemen business lunch to share knowledge and experiences with the local leaders of businesses in and around Milton Keynes.

Former speakers include Lady Mary Archer, Dame Cleo Laine, Edwina Currie, Sir Ian McGeechan, Neil Back MBE, Sir Edward Tompkins, Budge Rogers OBE and MP of MK South, Iain Stewart.

OUR Crab, Avocado and Mango starter has knocked Haggis Hash – a renowned diners’ favourite – off the top spot of the best-seller list.

Following the launch of our new A La Carte menu, customers can’t get enough of the gluten free option dish, which is served with pickled white crab, smashed avocado, toasted brioche and mango gel.

But some things never change, as the Twice-Cooked Blade of Beef continues to be the preffered main of choice.

The tenderly cooked meat melts in your mouth, and goes perfectly with truffle mash, cavolo nero, butternut squash puree and red wine jus.

Our most popular dessert of the month has been the Creme Brûlée of the day, with Sticky Toffee Pudding following in a close second place.

The dessert, known for its luxurious taste and creamy texture, has become a firm favourite at the Woburn restaurant since a new ‘flavour of the week’ menu was launched.

Meanwhile customers have been choosing to wash down their dinner with a selection of their favourite alcoholic beverages.

This month’s favourite were revealed as Sant Malbec (red wine), Pinot Bella (white wine) and Peroni (beer).

The countdown is on to the launch of our Festive Menu, which will go live at the end of the month.

It’s almost time for the kids to head back to school after six weeks of summer fun.

But it can be a tricky time for children to let go of their care-free time and head back to the classroom.

That’s why Galloways of Woburn is inviting customers to enjoy their Kids Menu as a special Back to School treat.

Start off with a mocktail and choose from our delicious selection of mains ranging from sirloin minute steak to macaroni cheese – but it would taste even better with a starter and dessert either side!

Children can enjoy three courses from our mini person’s menu for just £7.50 if they’re under ten years old.

They’ll also get the chance to solve our word search, colour in our very own Galloways of Woburn stag and have a little surprise at the end of their meal!

Father’s Day made special at Galloways of Woburn

FATHER’S Day was the chance to celebrate the special men in our lives who deserve to be spoilt.

Galloways of Woburn welcomed a full house on June 17, with families, husbands and dads filling the restaurant with love.

Hearty steaks were transformed into Roast Sirloins with a Mustard Crust served with herb-scented roast potatoes, savoy cabbage, selection of seasonal vegetables, yorkshire pudding and a rich red wine jus. While pork belly and our diners’ favourite Twice-Cooked Blade of Beef were a tasty alternative to enjoy too.

For those dads who fancied something different from a Sunday Roast, Galloways offered a delicious Pan-Seared Venison Haunch, a refreshing Sea Bream Fillet and for the vegetarian dads, a giant Spring Roll with Sweet Chilli Sauce.

Diners were delighted with their meals hailing them “amazing”, “excellent” and a “superb, special Sunday Lunch!”.

Alongside the Father’s Day celebrations, Galloways welcomed in lots of birthdays and anniversaries as usual, making their special day extra thoughtful.

Programme Director for Transport Systems Catapult joined Concrete Cattlemen as guest speaker this month.

Yolande Herbath spoke about the company’s future in Milton Keynes and their plans for advancing transport and making it more user friendly.

“It’s now putting the human being at the centre of travel instead of the airplane or bus,” she explained after a two-course meal and refreshments.

“We don’t want to go onto six different websites for six different tickets, we want to tap on one button and for it all to be there”.

Transport Systems Catapult has been at the front of numerous innovative projects around Milton Keynes, including Driverless Pods tested in 2016.

She added: “Driverless cars were science fiction…[but] it’s something that could happen and could happen quite quickly”.

During her speech, Yolande spoke about how Transport Systems Catapult interact with the people of Milton Keynes.

“We really do try to reach out to the community within MK.

“We run the transport café which is open to all SMEs and businesses as an opportunity for the managers to stand up and address their challenges.”

The Concrete Cattlemen meet every month for lunch to share knowledge and experiences with the local leaders of businesses in and around Milton Keynes.

This month’s lunch included a starter of Smoked Ham Hock or Soup of the Day and a main of Braised Pork Belly or Vegetarian Wellington.

Last month, Chairman of MK Hospital, Simon Lloyd, became the latest guest for the Concrete Cattlemen.

Other former speakers include Lady Mary Archer, Dame Cleo Laine, Edwina Currie, Sir Ian McGeechan, Neil Black MBE, Sir Edward Tompkins, Budge Rogets OBE and last year MP of MK South, Iain Stewart.

Chairman of MK Hospital joins Concrete Cattlemen

The chairman of Milton Keynes University Hospital joined the Concrete Cattlemen as guest speaker this month.

Simon Lloyd spoke about plans to have the hospital rated outstanding as he promised patient safety is always put first.

He told a packed Galloways of Woburn restaurant: “Thank you very much for a very fine lunch and for inviting me” before adding: “Patient safety is hugely important and we put that before anything else. Next is patient experience and finance comes last.

“At the end of the day, I don’t think anyone is going to let the hospital go bust, they may fine me but nothing beats saving lives.”

The lunch included a starter of Poached Pear and Soup of the Day with the main being a classic Bangers and Mash for meat eaters and the Harissa Parcel for vegetarians.

The Concrete Cattlemen meet every month for lunch to share knowledge and experiences with the local leaders of businesses in and around Milton Keynes.

Last month MK’s Poet Laureate Mark Niel performed for the Concrete Cattlemen to entertain them over a delicious lunch.

Other former speakers include Lady Mary Archer, Dame Cleo Laine, Edwina Currie, Sir Ian McGeechan, Neil Black MBE, Sir Edward Tompkins, Budge Rogets OBE and last year MP of MK South, Iain Stewart.

Galloways of Woburn announced as FINALISTS in MKFLA 2018

Galloways of Woburn has been named a finalist in this year’s Milton Keynes Food and Leisure Awards 2018.

Owners Pam and Ash are proudly in the running for Best Restaurant at the glitzy ceremony on Sunday.

They will join restaurant general manager Mona, Pam’s sister, and their hard-working staff at the awards event in MK in hope of picking up the trophy.

Pam said: “We feel incredibly honoured that our loyal customers took the time to vote and give us this fantastic opportunity to be in the final.

“I’d truly like to thank everyone for their kind support since we took over Galloways of Woburn in May last year.

“I’m so proud of our hardworking staff who strive to deliver excellent service to every person who walks through the door.

“A special thanks to my sister Mona too who has been instrumental to the success of Galloways of Woburn.

“Fingers crossed for the final on Sunday – good luck to everyone nominated!”

It’s the seventh year running that the awards has celebrated MK’s best restaurants in and around Milton Keynes, as well as finding the Pub of the Year, Hotel of the Year and Best Destination or Attraction of the Year.

MKFLA founder Steven Dryden-Hall said: “We’re so excited to be bringing the food awards back bigger and better than ever before.

“There has been a lot of tough competition for our nominees this year. I look forward to the results being announced on Sunday.”

MK’s first Poet Laureate leaves MK business leaders in stitches

GALLOWAYS of Woburn was filled with fun and laughter on Wednesday when MK’s Poet Laureate performed for the Concrete Cattlemen.

Mark Niel talked about how he became a professional poet and why he feels like a cultural ambassador for MK.

He entertained guests over a delicious three-course lunch by performing humorous poems about sharing a student fridge and why Milton Keynes is better than Peterborough.

This week the business club was treated to two guests – with the second being author Carole Matthews who signed copies of her book Million Love Songs.

The Concrete Cattlemen business lunch was a great success with one of the guests saying it was “one of the best lunches we’ve ever had!”.

Club members meet every month for lunch at Galloways of Woburn to share knowledge and experiences with the local leaders of businesses in and around Milton Keynes.

Owner Pam Gosal said: “It was a fabulous occasion that saw clean plates at the end of the meal as our guests enjoyed our uniquely created dishes including a Haggis Croquette!
