For the second year running, Galloways of Woburn will be celebrating Burns Night on Friday 25th January in a sold-out special event with live entertainment and delicious food.
Born and bred in Scotland, owners Pam and Ash have always been keen to bring their culture and tradition to the village of Woburn.
Since renovating the historical Aberdeen House which is home to Galloways of Woburn, they have decorated it with some fine Scottish decor and host an amazing array of whiskies and dishes with a Scottish influence – notably the best selling starter Haggis Hash.
This year, they have created a main called Haggis and Black Pudding Stack for the event as last year the guests just couldn’t get enough of the delicious and unique Haggis Hash recipe.
But what is Burns Night and why is Burns Night celebrated?
Friends and family of famous Scottish poet Robert Burns organised a special event to celebrate his life and literature legacy after he died in 1796. The memorial has morphed into a country-wide event with people celebrating in their homes or in restaurants with traditional music, and renditions of Burns’ most treasured poetry.
It was said that ‘Rabbie’ (as he was also known), was something of a revolutionary figure following his social commentary and focus on politics which can be seen in his recorded poems and songs. He was a massive source of inspiration to the founders of Liberalism and Socialism.
So, why January 25th? Well, this date was chosen to mark the iconic poets birthday. But instead of the traditional balloons and birthday cake, this celebration involves guests donning tartan, enjoying music from the bagpipes and reciting songs and poetry from the man himself. Not to mention tucking into a delicious three-course meal, normally containing haggis, neeps and tatties with a dram of whisky.
Growing up in Glasgow, Pam and Ash have always maintained their Scottish roots and are very excited to share their traditions with their guests.
Did you miss out on booking for this year? You can still have a taste of Scottish tradition by sampling our best selling Haggis Hash available as a starter on our a-la-carte menu.
